Mozilla Adds One-Click Option to Disable Generative AI Features in Firefox

MOZILLA has introduced a new controls section in Firefox’s desktop settings that lets users completely disable generative AI features, providing a single place to block current and future GenAI capabilities. According to Ajit Varma, head of Firefox, users can also review and manage individual AI features if they choose to use them, effectively allowing Firefox to run without AI while development continues.

The feature is expected to roll out with Firefox 148, scheduled for release on 24 February 2026, and initially lets users manage translations, AI‑enhanced PDF alt text, AI‑assisted tab grouping, link previews, and an AI chatbot in the sidebar. The sidebar chatbot can use well‑known agents such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Le Chat Mistral while browsing the web.

Mozilla’s stance emphasises user choice, with the company noting its belief in giving people control over AI features as it builds them, while Mozilla’s CEO Anthony Enzor-DeMeo also underscored that privacy and clear explanations of data use and AI are essential.
