NOOPUR Davis, Comcast’s Global Chief Information Security Officer, says her career in cybersecurity was largely unplanned. She began as a software developer at Intergraph, later leading engineering teams before joining Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute. Work with Microsoft on trustworthy computing helped draw her into cybersecurity, and she moved into the field formally in 2011 as Intel’s vice-president of global quality, with responsibility spanning product security and incident response.
Davis joined Comcast in 2016, became its corporate executive vice-president and chief information security and product privacy officer in 2021, and took the Global CISO role in 2023.
Davis now oversees around 1,500 security staff across Comcast’s global operations. In an interview with SecurityWeek, she said effective CISO leadership requires both technical knowledge and business understanding, with security teams focused on enabling the organisation safely rather than simply refusing risky projects. She favours calm, clear communication during crises, arguing that avoiding drama helps colleagues understand the seriousness of an incident without creating confusion.
She also emphasised the combination of individual expertise and cohesive teams, saying Comcast’s global security organisation has more than 100 patents. To address burnout, Davis said leaders should compensate for periods of intense work by insisting that staff take meaningful time off. Her approach is to accept that security incidents will occur, prepare teams to respond methodically, and continually improve rather than attempt to follow a fixed career or security plan.
