X is suing operators of a Bitcoin-focused content farm, alleging that they manipulated engagement metrics to obtain $278,000 in creator revenue. According to the company’s complaint, numerous accounts were coordinated to repost and like one another’s posts, while publishing identical or substantially similar material to create the appearance of genuine interaction. The case has been filed in courts including those in England and Wales.

X said its automated systems detected the activity and removed the accounts from its creator revenue-sharing programme on 18 August. However, it was unable to recover the money already paid, prompting the legal action. The company is seeking the disputed revenue as well as around $100,000 for investigation and remediation costs, according to the article.

The alleged activity exploited the former programme’s reliance on impression counts. X has since ended that system and moved to an initiative intended to reward authentic, original content. Participation in the previous programme required real-name verification and Stripe integration, which the article says could help identify the people involved. The lawsuit is therefore presented not only as an attempt to recover funds, but also as a deterrent against similar engagement-fraud operations.
