Student sparks WiFi outage across Michigan schools

CyberSIXT Evidence Panel Source marked as original reporting

KENTWOOD Public Schools in Kent County, Michigan, said districtwide Wi-Fi was disrupted after a student used malicious software designed to interfere with the school system’s network, according to DysruptionHub. The district said outside experts helped isolate the issue, which affected Wi-Fi connectivity across its 16 schools and that the problems appear to have been resolved.

FOX 17 reported that the district determined the disruption was caused by a student using “malicious software” to disrupt the system, and WOOD-TV reported that police were investigating and interviewing those involved. The district is not releasing details about the student, including age or grade, and no motivation has been revealed as of now. The notice was published on 1 May 2026.
