ISRAEL’S State Attorney’s Office has filed an indictment against Michael “Miki” Bar, a 43-year-old hacker from Ashkelon who was chief information security officer at the Hamat Group. The group is not implicated in the case. According to the indictment, Bar infected the computer systems of 26 companies, two kibbutzim and private individuals with malware, enabling him to run thousands of remote commands and obtain passwords, correspondence, sensitive business information and recordings from cameras and microphones.
Prosecutors allege that Bar created, distributed and operated the malicious software from 2019 until his arrest the previous month. After learning that his attacks had been detected, he allegedly used artificial-intelligence tools to develop more sophisticated malware and continued extracting business and personal information. The indictment reportedly says some of the malware was developed with assistance from AI tools, including Claude.
