RANSOMWARE activity has surged, with a marked 25% increase in incidents from April 2025 to March 2026, following the emergence of over 60 new groups in the landscape. Many organizations, especially smaller ones, are increasingly targeted due to visible cybersecurity weaknesses, with 41% of those having high ransomware susceptibility indices (RSI) facing attacks. The manufacturing and professional services sectors are at the highest risk, though attacks are rising in Europe, outpacing the US.
AI has not driven the increase in ransomware but has enabled less skilled attackers to enter the sector. Post-incident, many organizations fail to adequately reduce risks, necessitating ongoing exposure evaluations.
