CLOUDFLARE has announced the Web Search API via its AI Gateway, enabling AI agents to ground responses in live, live-web information rather than relying on static training data. The feature is rolled out in partnership with Ceramic[.]ai, Exa, and Linkup, and is designed to inject fresh, structured web snippets into an agent’s context to support up-to-date understanding of events, APIs, and documentation.
Key details emphasise transparency and control. Cloudflare says the web search crawler used by partner providers must comply with its bot crawling standards, recognise verified bots, and include a link to the crawled content. The Web Search API is accessible through Cloudflare’s AI Gateway, including a direct REST endpoint and Cloudflare Workers bindings, with Bring-Your-Own-Key support for organisations.
The platform provides observability, unified billing, and access controls, and plans to ship native Server Tools that will incorporate web search as a standard tool. In addition, Cloudflare notes that any web search data drawn from the gateway can be logged and tied to credits, with options for zero data retention where supported by partners. The article outlines practical examples for using the REST API or Workers to fetch live results and hints at broader tool integration coming soon.
