PERPLEXITY says its Computer AI workflow can now run entirely on a Mac, including the control framework and task orchestrator. The feature is available to Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers with a recent Apple Silicon Mac and at least 36GB of unified memory. Users install one of two local models through the latest Mac app: Qwen 3.6, or Perplexity’s PPLX Pro, a version of Qwen 3.6 tuned for computer operation and workflow tasks.
Perplexity says running the system on-device can keep sensitive information, such as data from Mail and Notes, on the Mac while the AI performs tasks, and reduce cloud computing and credit use. The company also says users can opt to send complex tasks to any of more than 15 cloud frontier models. Code execution and tool calls are handled in an isolated sandbox, which Perplexity says follows the same security standards as its cloud version. The article does not report independent testing of the privacy or security claims.
