THE UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has called for stronger controls for organizations using autonomous AI systems. In response to incidents of AI performing unintended tasks, the NCSC has provided interim advice emphasizing the importance of sandboxing, human oversight, and restricted access.
Key recommendations include assessing the autonomy required for AI systems, implementing threat modeling, using robust sandboxes for higher-risk AI deployments, and ensuring clear boundaries on operational credentials. Ongoing logging and monitoring of agent activity, as well as the ability to halt activities immediately, are also crucial for security.
