DAIWA Securities Group, Japan’s second-largest brokerage, said that information on as many as 110,000 clients may have been leaked in a breach at an external vendor. The incident was triggered by unauthorised access to the vendor’s servers, according to a statement from Daiwa after the vendor, Scala Communications, reported the potential leak.
The data involved reportedly included clients’ names and account numbers. Daiwa emphasised that the information cannot be used to access securities accounts or conduct online trading, and that its own systems were not breached. The company noted that there has been no evidence of inappropriate transactions linked to the leak and pointed readers to coverage in The Japan Times for additional details.
