ON September 1, the Department of Justice announced that Honeywell Aerospace Inc. will pay $2,042,518 to settle allegations of violating cybersecurity requirements in a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense under the False Claims Act. The allegations, stemming from a whistleblower lawsuit, asserted that Honeywell failed to comply with NIST Special Publication 800-171 safety standards from April 2020 to December 2023. The whistleblower, Rachel Tenney, will receive $375,823 as part of the settlement.
The resolution involved coordination among various justice departments and was led by Senior Trial Counsel Greg Pearson and Assistant U.S. Attorney Holly Snow. Notably, the claims are unproven allegations and not a determination of liability.
