TAIWANESE prosecutors have charged nine individuals, including employees from Nvidia and Super Micro, for illegally exporting advanced AI servers to mainland China. This issue arises amid intensified U.S.-China competition over AI infrastructure, particularly around AI semiconductors manufactured in Taiwan. Since 2022, the U.S. has imposed restrictions on Nvidia's semiconductor exports to China.
Prosecutors revealed that 74 servers were successfully sent to China and detailed the methods used to circumvent export controls, including the establishment of a company in Japan and falsification of documents. Prosecutors are seeking maximum sentences for four defendants, highlighting a key figure from Nvidia linked to the offenses.
