SAKURA Internet, a Japanese cloud provider, recently revealed a security breach affecting approximately 1.36 million customer accounts, which occurred on August 9, 2026. The breach originated while the company was addressing a separate security incident. Initial findings indicated unauthorized logins to 583 accounts, with malware detected on its systems.
Although no passwords were stored in plaintext, leading to a lower risk of misuse, the company confirmed that no hacking group has claimed responsibility, and the attack is not related to ransomware. Despite the breach, there has been no verified data exfiltration.
