CYBERSECURITY agencies from 12 countries have warned that a Russian state-sponsored cyber unit, known as FSB Center 16 or by various names like Berserk Bear, is targeting vulnerable routers globally. This advisory focuses on the use of weak SNMP passwords that compromise network security. Sectors at risk include communications, defense, energy, financial services, government, and healthcare. Agencies recommend protective measures such as using SNMPv3.
Additionally, the advisory correlates with recent cyber-attacks on Poland’s energy grid, attributing blame to the same group. The UK and EU have imposed sanctions on individuals linked to these cyber operations.
