NCSC launches SilentGlass, a plug-in device to secure HDMI and DisplayPort links, aimed at protecting monitors from hardware attacks. The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) describes SilentGlass as a small, plug-in security device that sits between a computer and a display to monitor and block suspicious activity on the connections.
According to the NCSC, the device has been licensed for production to Goldilock Labs in partnership with Sony UK Technology Centre, marking a first commercially available product to use NCSC branding. It was developed through government-led research and has already been tested in high-security government settings before its broader market introduction at CYBERUK.
SilentGlass represents a shift in cybersecurity thinking by enforcing security checks at the hardware level rather than focusing solely on software vulnerabilities, aiming to reduce attacks that exploit physical pathways into systems. The product is marketed as affordable and scalable for deployment across government and private-sector environments, with potential adoption by governments, critical infrastructure operators, and security-conscious organisations worldwide.
