Google to roll Chrome updates every two weeks from September 2026

GOOGLE on Tuesday announced that new Chrome iterations will be released every two weeks, moving away from the current four‑week release cycle, with the shift taking effect in September 2026. Since 2021 major Chrome versions have shipped every four weeks, and since 2023 security updates have been delivered weekly to reduce patch gaps, while the beta cycle will also adopt the two‑week cadence starting with Chrome 153 on September 8.

The change will apply to desktop, Android, and iOS platforms, but will not affect Dev and Canary releases. According to Google, Chrome Extended Stable releases will continue to arrive every eight weeks, and extended release options will remain available to Chromebook users. The company emphasises that the smaller scope of more frequent releases should minimise disruption and simplify post‑release debugging, while maintaining high standards for stability.
