CYBERCRIME is surging in the Asia-Pacific region, driven by the rapid adoption of digital technologies, according to Interpol's latest report. Cybercrime now constitutes 30% of criminal activity in more than half of the surveyed countries. Key findings include: a third of countries reported over 10,000 online scams, a rise in ransomware attacks affecting various sectors, and a significant increase in DDoS attacks. With around 6.5 billion cyber threats reported in 2024, the sector is increasingly complex.
The rise in cyber threats is linked to inadequate security measures and the growth of digital connectivity. The report calls for enhanced cross-border cooperation and better intelligence sharing to combat these evolving threats.
