DoD names Bishop as DCIO(CS) CISO to bolster cyber leadership

JAMES ‘Aaron’ Bishop has been named the Department of Defense’s DCIO(CS)-CISO, taking on the role of deputy chief information officer for cybersecurity and chief information security officer, according to the Office of the Department of War (DoW) Chief Information Officer. He officially assumed the role in an acting capacity on 27 February, with the DoW CIO’s office describing the position as critical for providing policy, technical, program and department-wide oversight on cybersecurity matters.

Bishop, a Navy veteran, previously served as the CISO for the Department of the Air Force and has held executive roles at Microsoft and SAIC. He succeeds David McKeown, who is retiring after more than four decades in government service and is set to move to the private sector. The appointment follows Nick Andersen’s nomination as acting director of CISA, as SecurityWeek notes.
