ISACA is accelerating governance work around AI by planning to launch an AI governance certification in early 2027, in beta now. The new credential sits within a family of AI-focused qualifications designed to help professionals manage AI securely and responsibly, addressing a stated governance gap highlighted by ISACA’s recent research. The organisation’s aim is to provide an umbrella for roles spanning cyber, audit and risk, ensuring AI is governed rather than left “on the loose”.
ISACA’s findings show a persistent skills gap: its 2025 AI Pulse Poll of more than 3,000 digital trust professionals found that 32% of organisations offer no AI training to any employees. By 2026, ISACA’s research suggested AI will dominate many technical and orchestration tasks, shifting focus to areas such as governance, AI configuration and monitoring, and final decision making.
The report emphasises that threat detection and response, along with identity and access management, remain the most important security skills, with additional focus on vulnerability management, data security and incident response. Chris Dimitriadis, ISACA’s chief global strategy officer, stressed the need for holistic, specialised AI training across roles from auditing to IT governance, to ensure professionals can manage AI effectively within organisations. The discussion took place during a European conference in Munich on 8 October.
