COMCAST agrees to a $117.5 million data breach class action settlement, stemming from the Citrix Bleed data breach it suffered in 2023 and related to claims that it failed to protect customers’ information. According to the court filing, U.S. District Judge John Milton Younge granted preliminary approval in a Jan. 16 order, with a final approval hearing scheduled for 7 July.
The settlement would benefit 31.6 million customers who were sent individual notifications about the October 2023 Comcast breach, which was publicly disclosed in December 2023. Under the terms, class members can receive three years of free financial and credit monitoring and identity theft protection, plus either reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses up to $10,000 (or lost time) or an alternative cash payment of $50. The Comcast data breach class action is Kenneth Hasson v.
Comcast Cable Communications LLC, Case No. 2:23-cv-05039, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Equifax’s related settlement of $575 million is noted as not the biggest ever, potentially rising to $700 million.
