ACCORDING to the FBI Private Industry Notice issued in May 2025, the Silent Ransom Group (SRG) has targeted law firms, and DataBreaches notes that SRG has publicly listed around 38 U.S. law firms on its leak site where non‑payment of ransoms leads to data being published. In the latest case, Wood Smith Henning & Berman LLP (WSHB) in California disclosed that SRG gained access on 20 February 2026 and demanded $1.8 million for roughly 3.6 GB of stolen data, a figure WSHB questioned as excessive.

Negotiations showed SRG was pursuing a “go first” offer and that both WSHB and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe ultimately offered far less than the initial demand, with WSHB processing a much lower figure of $15,000 for certain data.

DataBreaches underscores that more than three dozen law firms have had data leaked by SRG, while noting that many other firms have been attacked or leaked by other threat actors; the article also questions regulator action, asking whether the FTC or state authorities have pursued enforcement against law firms for data breaches.
