THE intelligence alliance known as Five Eyes (comprising the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) has expressed concerns regarding the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence that could enhance offensive hacking capabilities. In a three-page statement, they emphasized that immediate action is necessary to address this threat.
They warned that frontier AI models could greatly transcend current industry expectations, significantly altering both offensive and defensive cyber capabilities, with imminent risks arising within months rather than years. The statement noted the potential misuse of AI technologies, like Anthropic’s Mythos, which can autonomously discover and exploit software vulnerabilities, raising alarms about the facilitation of cyberattacks and the creation of hazardous biological or chemical agents.
