THE FBI has issued a warning about cyber criminals exploiting traffic distribution systems (TDS) to redirect users to malicious websites. These attackers alter the code of legitimate sites, specifically targeting those with weak security, to deploy TDS that leads visitors to phishing sites or downloads malware. The scale of the threat is significant, as compromised sites can funnel thousands of visitors to these harmful pages while avoiding detection by traditional security measures.
Although specific suspects remain unidentified, these malicious actors often sell access to their compromised networks to ransomware groups. To counteract this, users are advised to check URLs, enforce strong passwords, and report incidents to local authorities.
