A Wellington pharmacy, Unichem Petone, experienced a data leak that exposed sensitive patient messages due to a system error on their website, which occurred between early June and June 22. The pharmacy's owner, Joseph Tsou, reported the issue and is in the process of contacting the 29 affected patients, offering apologies for breaching their trust. Tsou emphasized that the messages were intended to remain private and that the problem arose during a change in the website provider.
Though measures have been taken to scrub the exposed information from the internet, the event has raised concerns about patient privacy in the healthcare sector.
