Arc browser will shut down in December 2026 as users face data loss

THE Browser Company has announced that Arc, its once-popular but niche browser, will shut down on 22 December 2026. After this date, the company will cease maintaining Arc and users will no longer be able to run the browser, with personal data also being deleted. The move follows a decision to shift resources to Dia, the company’s sister browser, which it positions as its main ongoing investment.

The shutdown unfolds in stages. From 22 October 2026, new Arc accounts can no longer be created, though existing accounts remain active for the time being. On 23 November 2026, Arc’s mobile features will be wound down: Arc Search on iOS and Android will lose its AI features, sign-in and tab sync will stop, and the iOS app will remain as a lightweight browser. The Android version will exit the Google Play Store and be removed from devices.

Finally, on 22 December 2026, Arc’s desktop applications for macOS and Windows will stop functioning, and all accounts will be deactivated; personal data will be deleted within 30 days, making data migration essential. The company recommends migrating to Dia and notes that a new Arc export option facilitates moving data to Dia or to another browser prior to the shutdown.
