THE U.S. government has sanctioned the VPN provider, 1VPNS, and its Ukrainian administrator, Dmytro Rashevskyi, for facilitating ransomware gangs that have targeted American municipalities, hospitals, schools, and businesses. The Treasury Department indicated that 1VPNS provided tools to ransomware groups to conceal their identities and evade detection, resulting in significant financial losses to U.S. critical infrastructure.
Rashevskyi allegedly used fake identities to procure infrastructure from companies that typically would not engage with him due to complaints of illegal activities linked to 1VPNS.
