After hack, some ignition interlock users couldn't start their own cars

AFTER a cyberattack hit Intoxalock on 14 March, the calibration backend for its ignition interlock devices went offline, leaving many users unable to calibrate and at risk of their vehicles being locked. The company said that five days later on 18 March it authorised local service centres to grant 10‑day calibration extensions, though these did not apply to all versions of the interlocks or every state.

By 20 March the systems were still down and the pause was extended to 22 March, with Intoxalock promising to cover user costs arising directly from the pause. On 22 March the company announced that its systems had resumed and that installations and calibrations were possible again. In Connecticut, the company told a local outlet that 7–10 per cent of users in that state had been affected, and discussions on potential class‑action actions were taking place on Reddit.
