MICROSOFT has released the Windows 11 monthly cumulative update KB5127648 for the 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2 branches. The update, delivered via Windows Update, aims to fix a broad set of security vulnerabilities while also addressing several functional defects. In particular, it resolves post-login black screens and AC-3 Dolby Digital audio playback failures that affected certain applications and legacy decoders dependent on Windows’ built-in codecs. The patch effectively eliminates the long-standing audio decoding issue and stabilises multi-user environments.
The update also tackles a known stability problem affecting multi-user deployments, notably those using Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop and FSLogix. On affected machines, initialisation after user authentication could fail and the File Explorer process would crash, leaving a black screen. According to the article, KB5127648 definitively resolves these instability issues. The rollout raises the respective Windows 11 builds to 26100.9711 (24H2), 26200.9711 (25H2) and 26300.9711 (26H2).
Consumers and administrators can obtain the update via the standard Windows Update channel, or as an offline installer from the Microsoft Update Catalog for manual deployment. The piece also notes that consumer editions of Windows 11 version 24H2 reach end of support on the same day, making migration to a newer supported release advisable for Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations or Pro Education editions on 24H2.
