MICROSOFT released an optional non-security update (KB5120998) for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, which has caused users to experience various bugs, including black screens and cursor glitches. Users reported disappearing desktop wallpapers, while their desktop icons and taskbar remained visible. Additionally, custom cursor themes were removed, and cursors appeared larger than usual. Microsoft is aware of the problems and is investigating the root cause.
Users can uninstall the update without compromising system security, and they are encouraged to provide feedback through the Feedback Hub to aid in troubleshooting.
