MICROSOFT'S June 2026 update introduced a bug in the Windows Recycle Bin where users see internal filenames (e.g., $Rxxxxx.ext) instead of original filenames during the delete confirmation dialog. This occurs only when permanently deleting files from the Recycle Bin, not from regular folders, and does not compromise file safety as the correct filenames are still displayed in the Recycle Bin list. Microsoft has confirmed the bug affects several Windows client and server versions and is working on a fix.
Other reported issues with the update include a BitLocker recovery loop and blue screens, which are not yet officially acknowledged. Users are advised to verify filenames before deletion and wait for a fix.
