Passkeys Nearly Double, but Few Users Ditch Passwords on Major Sites

PASSKEYS are becoming more common on login screens, but adoption remains slow, according to Dashlane’s third annual Passkey Power 20 report. Dashlane analysed millions of aggregated, anonymised passkey authentications from July 2025 to June 2026, finding that passkey logins among its users nearly doubled year on year to 2.5 million per month in 2026. The proportion of Dashlane users storing at least one passkey rose to 57%, up from 40% the previous year. Despite these gains, passkey-based logins still account for only a minority on major sites, with Google at 28%, PayPal 18%, Amazon 17% and eBay 8%.

The report notes that passkeys are harder for scammers to compromise because there is no password to guess or steal; authentication is tied cryptographically to legitimate websites, and the user’s private key remains on their device even if the site is breached. For organisations, passkeys can reduce the risk of account takeover and lower IT support workloads by decreasing password resets.

Dashlane highlights growing support among applications, including HubSpot and Cisco Duo, and new entrants such as isolved HCM and BambooHR, as well as AWS and Dropbox. To accelerate adoption, the firm recommends four approaches: make passkeys highly visible in workflows, promote them as a faster alternative with higher completion, begin removing password-based fallbacks, and set deadlines for mandatory use. The report also notes a spring 2027 Yahoo Japan deadline from LY Corporation for Yahoo Japan users.
