ACCORDING to The Information, OpenAI is adjusting its product strategy in response to competition from SpaceXAI’s Grok Bot and Meta’s Muse. Grok Bot, launched in August, is described as a digital assistant with dedicated cloud-computing resources that can automatically log into users’ applications and operate in the background, handling tasks such as market research and in-app work. OpenAI is reportedly developing enterprise and productivity features aimed at matching these capabilities and retaining customers.
OpenAI is also said to be considering a new personal-assistant product to compete with Muse, which was unveiled in early September with customisable avatars and integration with Meta’s social platforms. The report says Muse quickly reached the top of the US free-app download chart. To strengthen its agent development, OpenAI has recruited Peter Steinberger, creator of the open-source OpenClaw agent tool, who is expected to lead work on a next-generation personal AI agent provisionally called Codex Bot. Steinberger reportedly selected OpenAI over Meta.
The developments reflect a shift in competition from foundation-model computing towards personal agents that can access users’ data and perform everyday tasks. The Information reports that OpenAI is currently trying to catch up on both consumer and enterprise fronts, potentially by repurposing and rebranding agent capabilities already present in ChatGPT and Codex rather than building entirely new systems.
