CLOUDFLARE has launched a developer preview of WebMCP, enabling sites to interact more effectively with AI agents without code changes. The new browser standard allows a page to expose tools for agents, enhancing the browsing experience without the need for scrapers. WebMCP can be activated with a simple toggle in the Cloudflare dashboard, allowing the integration of multiple tool packs which can be enabled individually.
The implementation involves adding a script to each HTML response, allowing the tools to run entirely in the visitor's browser. This allows for quicker, more efficient interactions with AI without affecting the page's original structure.
