Dropbox Will Delete Inactive Accounts After Six Months Under New Terms
CyberSIXT Evidence Panel Source marked as original reporting

DROPBOX’S updated terms of service will take effect on 1 January 2027 and shorten the inactivity period before it can suspend or delete an unpaid account from 12 months to six months. The company says it will continue emailing users before taking action, but accounts that have not been logged into for six consecutive months may be suspended or deleted, potentially resulting in the loss of stored data. Paid accounts are exempt while their subscription remains active; the six-month period begins after the paid service expires, according to the report.

The terms also state that multiple Dropbox accounts can be linked to one email address, but accounts associated with an email may all be suspended if one is suspended for a violation. The report says users with multiple accounts may therefore wish to use separate email addresses. Dropbox’s terms further state that data cannot be accessed or exported after an account is suspended or deleted.

Separately, the refund policy has been expanded: refunds may be available in limited circumstances, as well as where legally required, subject to company policy and customer-service review.
