ACCORDING to Check Point, UK organisations were hit by far fewer cyber-attacks in February than the global average, but the year-on-year increase was nearly four times the growth rate worldwide. The global Threat Intelligence report recorded an average of 2086 cyber-attacks per organization per week globally, a 9.8% YoY rise, while the UK figure stood at 1504 per week, up 36% YoY.
Education, energy & utilities, government, healthcare and financial services were among the sectors most frequently targeted in the UK, with ransomware remaining a top threat. The report identified 49 discrete ransomware groups operating last month, with Qilin (15%), Clop (13%) and The Gentlemen (11%) accounting for the largest share of victims.
Globally, GenAI data-exposure risks rose as one in 31 prompts posed a high risk, with 88% of organisations using GenAI tools regularly affected, and users generating an average of 62 prompts per month across 11 different tools. UK regional threat commentary highlighted ongoing persistent risk despite the comparative attack-volume advantage.
