Doxers Posing as Cops Are Tricking Big Tech Firms Into Sharing People’s Private Data

Doxers posing as cops are tricking big tech firms into sharing private data, with one incident described by privacy specialists at the legal response operations centre of Charter Communications. According to the report, an emergency data request was sent on September 4 from “Officer Jason Corse of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office,” but the email did not come from Corse or the sheriff’s office.

It was issued by a member of a hacking group that provides doxing-as-a-service to customers willing to pay for highly sensitive personal data held by tech companies in the United States. The source quoted by the piece, Exempt, stated that the ploy took “all of 20 minutes”. Read more at WIRED, according to WIRED.
