Bithumb probes data leak after internal system breach
South Korea’s crypto exchange Bithumb is investigating a data leak stemming from a hack of its internal mobile system, discovered on Tuesday. The company has notified the Korea Internet & Security Agency and the Personal Information Protection Commission and is assessing the breach’s scope, including whether member data was exposed. Crypto holdings are believed to have not been affected, according to early reporting cited by CryptoNews.
Bithumb’s disclosure comes as Daishin Securities and Mirae Asset Global Investments also reported hacking incidents on the same day, October 28. CryptoBriefing cites Yonhap News Agency for the broader context, noting that earlier in October at least 16 South Korean financial institutions were targeted, with an estimated 100,000 data-leak cases across the sector. Daishin reportedly affected roughly 38,490 customers. The article presents these figures as reported by external outlets and agencies.
