Jaguar Land Rover confirms major disruption and £196M cost from September cyberattack
Jaguar Land Rover says the September 2025 cyberattack halted production, disrupted retail operations and, in mid-September, led to a data breach without disclosing details. The disruptions meant production at the Solihull plant and broader UK dealer networks were affected, with production only restarting by 8 October 2025. The quarterly financial results show the incident cost £196 million, part of exceptional items that also included redundancy costs, and the attack was claimed by Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters.
UK government support followed, with a guarantee announced to unlock up to £1.5 billion to stabilise JLR’s supply chain and protect jobs. According to the Bank of England, domestic GDP was affected by the disruption, which also weighed on exports and overall growth in the period analyzed. The company had initially stated that no customer data was compromised, though JLR later confirmed the cyberattack resulted in a data breach.
