After 21 Years, the Typepad Blogging Platform Is Shutting Down

The Typepad blogging platform, online for 21 years, has announced that it will cease operations on 30 September 2025. The company warns that all users must export their content in advance, as data will become irretrievable once the service is discontinued. Typepad, launched in 2003, provided a hosted blogging system that required no server ownership or domain registration, while also supporting customization and advertising placement.

The firm did not disclose an exact reason for the shutdown, but notes a general decline in the appeal of blogging platforms and a trend towards professional users hosting their own sites under custom domains. From 31 August 2025, Typepad will stop charging service fees, and for recent payments the company will attempt prorated refunds using saved payment methods.
