iPhone 17 Users Report Wi-Fi Disconnection Issues

23 September 2025. Numerous reports on Apple’s forums and other online communities describe intermittent Wi‑Fi disconnections affecting the iPhone 17 family, including the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, with Wi‑Fi briefly disconnecting and then reconnecting after unlocking the device. The issue could also cause CarPlay sessions to drop, given CarPlay relies on Wi‑Fi, and some Apple Watch users have noted that unlocking the smartwatch can trigger interruptions on their iPhones.

The iPhone 17 line uses Apple’s in‑house N1 networking chip, which replaces Broadcom wireless chips and handles Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and Thread connectivity. Typically such issues are resolved via software updates, but it is not yet known whether Apple is aware of the bug or when a fix might be delivered.

Arun Mathias, Apple’s Vice President of Wireless Software Technologies, highlighted the energy efficiency of the N1 chip in an interview with CNBC, stating that Wi‑Fi access points contribute to location awareness and can reduce GPS usage by running more in the background.
