Quizlet leak reveals US Border Patrol gate codes to public

A Quizlet flashcard set called “USBP Review,” created in February, appears to have exposed highly confidential information about security procedures in US Customs and Border Protection facilities around Kingsville, Texas. The set was available to the public until 20 March, when it was made private less than half an hour after WIRED messaged a phone number potentially linked to the Quizlet user, according to WIRED.

A CBP spokesperson told WIRED that the incident is being reviewed by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, and that a review should not be taken as an indication of wrongdoing. The public set contained details about alleged facility-entry codes and gate codes, including a four-digit combination listed as an answer to a “Checkpoint doors code?” card, and another card describing the code of a specific gate.

The story notes a rapid CBP hiring surge with up to $60,000 in recruitment incentives, and mentions ICE’s plan offering a $50,000 signing bonus and up to $60,000 in student loan repayment.
