The MacBook is Getting a Touchscreen, But Not How You Think

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple is preparing to bring touchscreen technology to its MacBook lineup, with the first model — an OLED MacBook Pro — expected to enter mass production by the end of 2026. The addition of a touchscreen to the MacBook Pro will blur the line between traditional laptops and tablets like the iPad, though the Pro will not feature a detachable keyboard to become a standalone tablet.

According to Kuo, this strategic shift follows Apple’s long‑term study of iPad user behaviour, with direct touch input and even a stylus highlighted as ways to boost productivity and user experience in certain scenarios. Production is slated for late 2026, so the first touchscreen‑equipped MacBook Pro may not reach the market until the end of 2026 or even spring 2027.

The report also notes Apple’s plans for a new MacBook powered by an Apple A-series processor to offer a more affordable entry point, targeting a broader range of users across market tiers.
