DIY or Pay Up: Framework’s New Price Hike and the “Bring Your Own RAM” Era
The well-known modular laptop maker Framework has announced yet another price increase for its products, marking the second hike within the past month and signalling that further rises are likely by January next year. According to Framework, memory modules of 32 GB or less now cost roughly $10 per gigabyte, while 48 GB modules climb to around $13 per gigabyte, a price pressure driven by rising RAM costs.
The company is actively encouraging customers to supply their own memory, with plans to update configurators to link to PCPartPicker for cheaper options. Framework notes that even amid a memory crunch it still offers comparatively reasonable RAM pricing, unlike Apple. It emphasises that while future pricing is hard to predict, if memory prices decline, laptop prices will follow suit, as current pricing reflects market forces rather than corporate greed. This was reported on 28 December 2025.
