The iPhone Fold is Coming: Apple’s 2026 Strategy Revealed
According to Nikkei Asia, Apple has informed its supply chain partners that shipments of the iPhone 18 series, slated for release in 2026, will increase by 10% compared with this year, with a long‑rumoured foldable iPhone reportedly planned for trial production in Taiwan. Sources suggest that the company holds high expectations for the iPhone 18’s performance, forecasting a 10% boost in overall shipments relative to this year, as the iPhone Fold becomes central to its plans.
The report notes that Apple is considering a small‑scale trial production line in northern Taiwan to optimise manufacturing before shifting mass production to India, a move aimed at shortening time‑to‑market and streamlining the large‑scale rollout. Nikkei Asia also states that this year’s iPhone 17 is projected to reach 85 million cumulative sales, while the iPhone 18 is expected to reach 95 million shipments, with overall iPhone shipments potentially surpassing 240 million units, boosted by the Fold. The piece acknowledges analysts’ caution that stocking targets may be adjusted based on materials and demand. September 19, 2025.
