iOS 26 Finally Unlocks Full-Resolution Screen Recording
iOS 26 finally removes the long-standing limitation on screen recording by allowing higher resolution capture, according to 9to5mac. The article notes that previously, screen recordings were capped at 1920 pixels, a restriction that persisted even with the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It states that on the iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 18, recordings maxed at 884×1920 pixels while the device’s native resolution is 1320×2868 pixels, resulting in visibly softer footage.
In the new iOS 26 beta, Apple has increased the resolution to 1320×2868, delivering much crisper video quality. Despite the boost, the company appears to have refined its video compression to prevent huge file size increases, with a 12‑second recording rising from 18.9 MB to 24.2 MB. The official release of iOS 26 is scheduled for later this month, and the update also brings HDR recording, the option to disable screenshots in CarPlay, and enhanced features such as Visual Lookup.
