Grok’s new code model is here to revolutionise development, with Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, announcing the launch of a new coding agent model named “grok-code-fast-1”, now available for free for a limited time. Positioned as a direct challenger to Microsoft and OpenAI in the AI coding market, the tool emphasises “speed and efficiency” and features a lightweight architecture designed to deliver faster response times and superior performance.

According to xAI’s official site, grok-code-fast-1 was specifically optimised to reduce latency in code reasoning and tool invocation, enabling developers to experience near-instantaneous feedback during their workflows. Early adopters report that the model is so fast it has forced them to rethink their usual workflows, making it one of the fastest coding models currently available.

The model already demonstrates proficiency with common developer tools such as grep, terminal operations, and file editing, and integrates into existing IDEs, creating the sense of working in a familiar native environment.
