Russian Hackers Target US Engineering Firm Because of Work Done for Ukrainian Sister City

In a recent cybersecurity incident, Russian intelligence hackers targeted an American engineering firm due to its connections with a U.S. municipality that has a sister city in Ukraine. The attack, identified by Arctic Wolf, reflects Russia's expanding cyber warfare tactics against entities supporting Ukraine. The group responsible, known as RomCom, typically targets organizations aiding Ukrainian civil society and defense. The attack was detected in September, preventing further disruption.

This incident follows warnings from the FBI about Russian hackers attempting to infiltrate U.S. networks to disrupt critical infrastructure and steal sensitive information. Additionally, a separate cyberattack on relief organizations supporting Ukraine was reported, highlighting the ongoing threat to entities involved in Ukrainian assistance.
