Microsoft Teams Flaw Prevents Users From Accessing Embedded Office Files
A widespread service disruption is currently affecting Microsoft Teams users worldwide, preventing access to embedded Office documents within the platform, according to GBHackers. The outage is disrupting core collaborative workflows as users cannot open Word documents, Excel sheets, or PowerPoint presentations directly in Teams chats or channels, with symptoms including loading screens, error messages, or blank windows.
To mitigate the impact, Microsoft has suggested workarounds such as opening files in the browser, launching them in the desktop Office apps, or accessing the underlying SharePoint or OneDrive locations, with local downloads enabling access but sacrificing real-time collaboration.
Microsoft has acknowledged the issue on the Microsoft 365 Service Health Dashboard, assigning incident TM1143347, and described that engineering teams are analysing diagnostic data to identify the root cause, though no resolution timeline has been provided. The company has prioritised the incident due to its effect on core functionality, and updates are being provided through the Service Health Dashboard as investigations continue, according to the article by Divya, published on 28 August 2025.
