Personal Information Compromised in Freedom Mobile Data Breach

Freedom Mobile has disclosed a data breach affecting a limited number of customers, identified on October 23 as the result of credential compromise. According to the incident notice, a threat actor gained access to a subcontractor’s account and used it to log in to Freedom Mobile’s customer account management platform.

Personal information exposed includes names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and customer account numbers, though Freedom Mobile says there is no reason to believe the information has been misused. The company has not disclosed how many customers might be affected, but Freedom Mobile remains the fourth-largest telecoms provider in Canada with over 3.5 million subscribers.

In its notice, Freedom Mobile states it quickly identified the incident and implemented corrective measures, including blocking the suspicious accounts and corresponding IP addresses.
