Customer Service Firm 5CA Denies Responsibility for Discord Data Breach

Customer service firm 5CA has denied being responsible for the Discord data breach after the platform named it in its disclosure of the incident, according to SecurityWeek. Discord said on October 3 that some users’ information may have been compromised as a result of a cybersecurity incident related to a third‑party customer service system. 5CA responded that none of its systems were involved and that it has not handled government IDs for Discord, noting that all its platforms and systems remain secure.

It added that, based on interim findings, the incident occurred outside its systems and there is no evidence of impact on other 5CA clients, systems, or data, with the preliminary information suggesting the cause could be human error and still under investigation.

The piece also notes that Zendesk was reportedly targeted, though Zendesk told SecurityWeek the incident did not involve its products or systems; hackers have claimed access to large data sets, including government IDs, with Discord stating only 70,000 IDs were exposed.
